Our Programs
ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION - THE RIGHT STEP
The Alternative Education programs offer a
unique learning environment where staff, teachers and students work together to
create an enjoyable and productive atmosphere. It is a place to earn
credits, ease some pressures and make some positive changes. These
programs are in partnership with Gary Allan High School of the Halton District
School Board.
Secondary Teen Education Program (STEP)
Through a strong 20-year partnership with the Halton District School Board, the Career Development & Learning Centre assists in the delivery of their Alternative Education Program: Secondary Teen Education Program (STEP).
STEP is an educational program for young adults in the YMCA Career Development Centre. It is designed for students aged 16 –20 who can work independently in a quiet, structured setting.
Students who can demonstrate a commitment to learning by attending regularly, being prepared daily for class, and contributing to a positive learning environment will do well in this caring and mutually respectful environment.
This program assists students to achieve academic credits, acquire job search skills, develop personal life skills, work cooperatively with others, and make wise and safe choices for healthy living.
The course material is developed according to requirements set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
